Annie Henderson, Executive Director

Annie Henderson became the first Executive Director of the Equitarian Initiative in January, 2019 after consulting for the organization during the two years prior. Annie holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Denver, CO. Her main priorities with the Equitarian Initiative are to strengthen their organizational structure, strategy and development.

Dr. Angela Varnum, Education Director

Angie serves in a contracted role as Education Director after volunteering with the organization since 2010. She also works in clinical practice as a large animal veterinarian in Minnesota, USA. Angie has a specific interest in community partnership through education, owing to a previous career as a Spanish teacher. She also holds a Master’s degree in public health and international development. She lives with her husband, Brooks, and enjoys teaching horseback riding lessons to youth in her community.

Dr. Daniela Martinez, Latin America Coordinator

Born and raised in Colombia, Dr. Martinez graduated from veterinary school in her country and completed her internship in the US where she worked in sports and internal medicine for 5 years. Her passion for horses and commitment to social impact drove her to the 2020 Equitarian Initiative workshop in Costa Rica. Since then, she has served as a volunteer and instructor on various EI projects.  Dr. Martinez is serving as EI’s Latin American Coordinator with the main goal of strengthening LatAm engagement through program support and growth.
