Honduras Equitarian Project: Nov 12 – 22, 2015

The Honduras Equitarian Project is a unique partnership of U.S. base equine veterinarians, World Horse Welfare, and the only veterinary college in Honduras at the Universidad Nacional de Agricultura. Now entering its 4th year, the 10 days focus on improving the health care of working equids and improving the equine clinical skills of ~ 30 Honduran veterinary students.
This is accomplished with initial classroom sessions taught by 7 U.S. veterinarians, and followed by 5 days working in communities around the city of Choluteca. The team provides thorough physical examinations to the predominately horse population, determines and then provides needed services including surgery.
Owner education is emphasized as well. World Horse Welfare’s team provides the community logistic support, farriers and saddlers. The hours are long, the heat and humidity are high, the food is very simple, but the amount of benefit to all and personal satisfaction are immeasurable.
